Focussing on business support was the topic for our recent Tevi event titled: “What can Cornwall Wildlife Trust do for your Business?” Enthusiasm ran high during the session, which featured case studies from existing business supporters which have benefitted from their links with the Trust, who are also a Tevi project partner.

Rachael Gifford from Ekopod explained how wildlife was the key focus of her glamping business near Bodmin Moor. Her involvement with Cornwall Wildlife Trust (CWT) has enabled her to understand more about the wildlife across her site and increase habitats to encourage more species to flourish. Engagement of her visitors with conservation and habitat improvement is also a top priority for Rachael and she uses Trust material to help her to do this.

Mark Roberts from Conscious Creatives explained how his involvement with CWT helps him to demonstrate his business ethics to his customer base and ‘put his money where is mouth is’. His affiliation with the Trust enables him to engage more with his customers through blog posts and outreach, along with linking him to wider environmental issues. Mark’s new idea for ‘Net-walking’ sessions will use Trust Nature Reserves to bring together like-minded individuals to network in an outdoor space, also embracing the health-restoring benefits of nature.

Matt Slater, Marine Awareness Officer for CWT told us about the Cornwall Good Seafood Guide and how he has worked with local businesses to make this the success it now is. Matt’s understanding and enthusiasm for the subject came across, with him demonstrating the advantages of sourcing more sustainable fish to both the business and the customer. This project continues to grow, with reference material available online and via an app for businesses to use easily.

To wrap up, an interactive workshop session looked to answer some key questions for Rowan Hartgroves, Relationship Manager at CWT. Rowan was looking at ways in which the Trust’s business supporters scheme could be improved to attract new businesses. Many of the businesses we engage with through Tevi express that their engagement with CWT staff helped them to both communicate their values back to their customers and link to the sustainability goals of their organisation.

If you feel that this aligns with your own business ideals and would like to find out more about Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s business supporters scheme then please contact Rowan Hartgroves at [email protected].
