Tevi led a study trip to the IMERYS processing laboratories this week with behind the scenes access  for a select group of business creatives. The aim of the trip was to understand more about IMERYS  processes and products and explore opportunities for adopting circular economy approaches to using current waste products.

IMERYS is the world leader in mineral-based specialties for industry, transforming a large variety of minerals into high value specialty products for the industry using sophisticated technical processes.

Imerys’ activities in Cornwall focus on Kaolin (China Clay) extraction and processing with the UK being the world’s 3rd largest producer and exporter of Kaolin after Brazil and the USA.

Whilst IMERYS has a global presence with over 250 sites in 50 countries, in Cornwall it produces approximately 1 million tonnes of kaolin each year, employs around 1000 people and operates in over 20 active quarry and industrial facilities as well as being a key component of the global research and development organisation . Its products are utilised in a wide variety of markets including:

  • Paints, sealants and adhesives
  • Plastics, Rubbers and Breathable Film
  • Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals
  • Ceramic materials for Sanitaryware, Tableware and Tiles
  • Paper and Cardboard
