Tevi is delighed to team up with the Digipolis Circular and Bioeconomy Centre in northern Finland to offer unique insight into how the circular economy transition is being implemented near the Arctic Circle.

Finland is a forerunner in the circular economy. Last year, under the leadership of Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, Finland was the first country in the world to draw up a national roadmap for the Circular Economy Action Programme, whose goal was to create a common vision for society to promote circular economy and to define the most effective means for achieving the vision.

The aim of Digipolis Circular and Bioeconomy Centre, located in Kemi, is to generate a model of industrial symbiosis built around the circular economy. Its founders and co-actors are Digipolis, the City of Kemi and Lapland University of Applied Sciences.

The establishment of the Centre is a logical continuation of Digipolis’ work in promoting the circular economy. Futher, Lapland University of Applied Sciences has chosen the development of circular and bio-economy as a strategic focus area and, in addition to projects, will invest more than EUR 200,000 of strategic development funding annually to establish the Circular Economy Centre. Furthermore, the University of Applied Sciences will invest about EUR 400,000 in research, development and innovation activities as well as in the development of teaching over the next two years. The training module for circular economy began in 2018.

Workshop hosts

Edvard Glücksman is a business-facing manager on Tevi, based in Cornwall, UK. Tevi is an ERDF-funded programme supporting Cornish SMEs to grow whist contributing to Cornwall’s environmental growth priorities and circular economy transition. Tevi currently supports over 300 enterprises through bespoke consultancy services, challenge networks and a grant scheme. The programme’s circular economy aspects are led primarily by the University of Exeter’s Business School. Tevi is delivered by the University of Exeter in partnership with Cornwall Wildlife Trust, Cornwall Council and Cornwall Development Company.

Jim Grant is Head of Cornwall Business Development within the University of Exeter’s Innovation, Impact and Business (IIB) team. IIB works across the research and education landscape, focusing on driving impact, connecting partners, creating opportunities and generating value between the university and external partners.
