Speakers

Professor Ruth Garside is a social science researcher specialising in systematic review and evidence synthesis. She has over 20 years’ experience using quantitative and qualitative research methods to investigate a range of health and social care questions. Her work has informed policy customers including WHO, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Home Office. Prof Garside is particularly interested in using a broad range of evidence to investigate complex public health issues and has a particular interest in methods of synthesis for qualitative research. She coordinates evidence synthesis across the streams of ECEHH research and develops these methods within environment and human health.

Dr Dan Bloomfield is the Project Manager for Tevi. He leads a team across IIB and three Colleges, as well as staff within our external delivery partners, Tevi (www.tevi.co.uk) engages enterprises throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to maximise economic benefit from the circular economy and contribute to environmental gain. Dan has been at the university in a number of roles for ten years. He has led international strategic partnerships within meteorology and human health, and has worked as a researcher and impact fellow in nature-based interventions for metal wellbeing.

Dr Alison Greenwood is a Counselling Psychologist, registered with both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). She has worked with diverse clinical groups across a wide variety of therapeutic settings: in charities, in schools, and within the NHS, in both primary and secondary care. Alison’s doctoral research focused on the mental health benefits of engagement with natural environments, and she has been incorporating ecotherapy practices in her work with clients for many years. Her broad experience, working with young people and vulnerable groups such as the homeless, older adults and victims of trauma, has led her to the firm conviction that a greater connection to nature can improve the mental wellbeing of us all. Alison gets her own weekly ‘dose of nature’, sitting in her garden, walking in Richmond Park, and running along the banks of the River Thames.

Claire Scipio is the founder of Bodds Active Swimwear. She has worked and studied within the education sector for the past eight years promoting the social, emotional, mental health and well-being of children and young adults in Cornwall.
She uses this experience as a foundation for the promotion of SEMH services via Bodds business values and ethos.
