Introduction to Care Farming

May 25, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Tevi and Social Farms & Gardens present an online introduction to care farming for providers of nature-based health interventions (NBIs)

After 13 months of lockdowns and other restrictions, the ability to access wildlife, social opportunities and green prescriptions is vital for the mental health of Cornwall and its people. Tevi is hosting an online summary of care farming and how companies and charities providing nature-based health interventions can take advantage of the nationwide support offered by Social Farms & Gardens.

Agenda

Dr Dan Bloomfield, Tevi – Introduction to Nature on Prescription – the Medical Research Council’s handbook on how to develop high-value mental health interventions

Sarah Marrison, Social Farms & Gardens – Introduction to Care Farming: Users, Provision and Beneficiaries, and how to get involved

Jan Oates, Cornish Camels – A case study of a Tevi business offering care farming on an organic farm on the Lizard

There will be opportunities to ask questions of all speakers at the end of the session.

Tevi is an ERDF-funded programme supporting Cornish SMEs to grow whist contributing to Cornwall’s environmental growth priorities and circular economy transition. Tevi currently supports over 300 enterprises through bespoke consultancy services, challenge networks and a grant scheme. Tevi is delivered by the University of Exeter in partnership with Cornwall Wildlife Trust, Cornwall Council and Cornwall Development Company.

Social Farms & Gardens is a UK wide charity supporting communities to farm, garden and grow together. They do this by: advocating and campaigning for greater recognition, funding and opportunities for nature-based activities; providing advice, support and training; and promoing income generating opportunities for their members. Please see their website for more information https://www.farmgarden.org.uk/

Cornish Camels is a 250-acre organic farm and venue near Helston. In addition to their hosting and farming activity, they are set up for disabled access and educational visits, and provide support not only for their visitors with extra needs, but for carers as well.
