Developing a food system that’s fit for the future by designing out waste through redistribution

During our first Tevi Food Waste Challenge Network we identified the ‘redistribution of food waste’ as a key solution to Cornwall’s commercial food waste challenge. Every year more than 500,000 tonnes of food is wasted in UK restaurants, pubs, hotels and quick service restaurants alone and this is only one part of the ‘farm to table’ food value chain.

This solution will include innovations in transport, storage, refrigeration tech and mapping.

Aim of the day

This workshop will explore the proposed food waste redistribution solution in more detail, identifying what is needed, who could deliver it, what supporting peripherals (such as data and mapping) may be required and where the solution could be piloted. The ultimate aim of this Tevi Challenge Network is to generate, capture and retain maximum value within the local food system.
