E-bikes and EV adoption in the transition to Net Zero
Business transport in Cornwall is changing. Organisations are increasingly looking to adopt electric vehicles, ahead of rapidly-approaching, ambitious net-zero targets. As such, the vehicle leasing side of the sector is increasingly pursuing green options as it works to manage and update its fleet. Fleet managers are exploring EV options across the board, while ensuring that the vehicles selected remain fit for purpose to provide normal service. As part of this transition e-bikes and e-cargo bikes are increasingly seen as a viable option for small businesses and their staff in moving around towns and delivering services.
Tevi’s Electric Vehicle Challenge Network met to discuss the opportunities and barriers in utilising e-bikes and e-cargo bikes as part of the ‘last mile’ challenge. Vicky Smyth introduced the aims of the session and covered an overview of Tevi’s Business Support packages followed by presentations from:
- Pedal My Cargo – Wadebridge
- West of England Combined Authority’s Sustainable Urban Freight Project
- Cornwall Council and Wheels 2 Work
Presentations were followed by a group discussion on locally-relevant solutions and an e-bike exhibition where the 28 participants could test out a range of e-bikes.
